I do not have a science background. Still, the forms of cells, viruses, and bacteria have always appealed to me aesthetically. I am also fascinated by the monumental tasks that these microscopic power houses perform on a daily basis. Our bodies are made up of a trillion cells working together. Cells make us who we are, heal us, and create new life. Unfortunately, sometimes they work against us, wreaking havoc on our bodies. It is all part of the crazy, amazing, sometimes difficult journey that it life.
Beyond appreciation and aesthetics, the driving force behind my work is really quite simple. It makes me happy. It fulfills my desire to create that is oftentimes pushed aside because of the responsibilities of being a mother, wife, and productive member of society. Sharing my work with others gives me the social outlet and connection that my extroverted personality requires. I enjoy hearing how people interpret my work based on their interests and life experiences.
I received my BFA from the University of Kentucky and was a juried artist in the 2013 AFB Woodland Art Fair. I have also shown my work nationally in galleries in St. Louis and Ann Arbor. Currently I am working towards a goal of getting my work into decor magazines and/or on websites. I'd also like to work with interior designers, designing installations of my work in clients homes or businesses.
Do you have a picture of cells in your home you'd like to share? I'd love to see it! To connect with me visit my blog, Facebook, or you can directly email me at [email protected]. I look forward to speaking with you!
