Thrift 20

Last Friday I went thrifting with a friend and decided to put myself on a budget of $20. Our first stop was the Salvation Army. I found a couple of pieces of clothes for Ruby...actually 4 things, but I put two back because I felt like they were priced high for what they were ($4 for a t-shirt). It's never hard to find adorable stuff for her. Of course I had  to have her model for me:

Even thought it only would have taken $1.00 out of my budget, I had to say no to the fantastical unicorn plaque. Those shiny golden hooves and the rose....I mean, what can I say, it pained me to pass this up.

It actually DID pain me to pass up these kick ass Etro Italian shoes, never worn, originally like $425 from Neiman Marcus. Gah! I would have rocked the shiz out of these. Curse my giant size 11 feet!

Our next stop was the Lexington Rescue Mission thrift store. I didn't have any luck here but my friend S did. She scored an unopened package of ET stickers from 1982 and a Bullwinkle Golden book for $0.50 each! In the car afterwards she called her deals "The Shit" and "Shit Jr." As she said this I had just taken a drink of milk, started laughing, and ended up spraying it all over the console and dashboard of my car. The range of the spray was pretty epic and we laughed so hard that there were tears. It was awesome.

Our last stop was Peddler's Mall, the biggest flea market in town. It's my favorite place to go because there is a huge variety. This place is so large (and they just opened a whole new section!) that it takes about 2.5-3 hours to go through it all. I had the best of luck here but did have to pass up a few things, including these sweet Dark Crystal  and Secret of Nimh lunch boxes. (I'd say that 90% of the stuff I find at thrift shops fall into the Oh My God That Is Awesome But I Don't Really Need It category)

I might have bought this from purse...If only my iPhone had fit into it. Hahaha. No, of course I wouldn't have bought that. Although I think seeing the look on hubby's face would have been worth the price...

I did find some books for Ruby:

and a cool wooden Dutch cookie mold. I'll never actually make cookies out of this thing so I'll probably stain the wood a little darker and hang it on the wall. It's about 24" long and has 5 different designs carved into it. I may or may not have been drawn to it because, well, it's cool, but the bottom mold also reminded me of a direwolf....NERD!
Picture
My most favoritest find were these Johnson Brothers vintage teacups. I have long admired the JB finds of people I follow on Instagram but have never come across any myself. I've tried researching this pattern a bit and the best I can come up with is that they may be from the 1970's as part of the Chelsea Collection and the pattern might be called Cadogen Garden? If you know better than I please let me know. (on the bottom of the saucer is says, IRONSTONE, MADE IN ENGLAND,REF 1B2)

So my budget was $20. Let's see how I did:
Dress: $3.99
Coat: $3.99 (not pictured)
Books: $1.50
Cookie Mold: $5
Tea Cups/saucer: $3.50
TOTAL: $19.14 with tax. WIN!

AH! You did awesome! I literally laughed out loud at "the shit" and "shit jr." So funny. I am obsessed with the Peddlers Mall. That place is epic. So much crap and so much treasure under one roof.

So, you had $20 in your pocket? ;) That dress is amazing...so cute! Sounds like you guys had a good time too. Sorry about the shoes. I know how you feel. Size 11 over here too. I found a pair of shoes at H&M for $2!! But they are size 10, so I bought them for my sister. :(

I can't believe that frog purse or whatever it is! Probably the craziest thing I've seen. You found some good stuff though :)

Boo! I always try to make myself feel better by saying that at least my feet are not wide as well as large!

Yeah, it was strange! We never figured out if it was real or not. I'm curious to see who would actually carry that...

Have you been to any of the other locations? I've only been to the Georgetown one. It was much smaller but still pretty good.
