If you've been on Pinterest lately you may have seen this recipe for a healthy version of McD's Shamrock Shake- the best seasonal shake in the history of humanity. Yes, I love them. Like get them any opportunity that I can while I can love them. High fructose corn syrup and the massive amounts of green food coloring be damned. This year I've actually done quite well. I've only gotten 3, at least a 50% drop from last year.

So when I saw this recipe I immediately repinned it but I was skeptical. How can it taste exactly like it without all the crap? Instead of having a scathing amount of unpronounceable ingredients, 54 to be exact, (see this from the HuffPo) this recipe only has 6 that are recognizable and easy to say. Everyone who commented on the recipe, at least those who had tried a SS before, raved about it so I thought I'd try it.

Makes about 4 cups

Ingredients:
1 can coconut milk. I used the lite variety (or 1 ¾ cups of any other type of milk)
1 avocado, peeled and pit removed
2 1/2 – 3 T honey, (or other sweetener of choice)
1 cup of ice
1 T pure vanilla extract
1 tsp pure peppermint extract

DIRECTIONS: Put everything in the blender and blend. Simple enough.

Voila!
Then came the moment of truth. I took a sip and was pleasantly surprised to find that it really does taste exactly like a Shamrock Shake. Actually, it might taste a little better. The avocado gives it a super creamy texture, better than the original. It was also nice that I didn't get a major case of eaters remorse afterwards. As an extra special bonus, Ruby loved it too! I can't say that I'll never eat another SS again but really, with this being so delicious there really is not a good reason to!

Ruby looks so sweet. I have never tried a Shamrock Shake, but I would much rather make this recipe anyway. Sounds intriguing. :)

Avocado? That is bananas! Haha. (Sorry, I laugh at all my own lame jokes.) I'll have to try this, thanks for sharing.
