Ruby in the Snow (behind the cuteness)

Instead of a post about my weekend woes (Ruby/fever/car/brick wall/puked on/peed on/Downton Abbey) I'll just share with you some of the picture from our photo shoot at the Franconia Sculpture Park in Minnesota with Katie Jeanne Photography. I booked the photo session hoping to get some cute snow shots of Ruby (since it hardly snows in KY) the only problem was that there was no snow! No snow in mid-December in Minnesota. Whaaaat? Well, that changed the day I flew in. We arrived around 1pm and by 5pm a major storm was rolling in. I think in total about 14" fell at my parent's place.

The photo session was originally scheduled with Katie for the Monday after we arrived but it was ca-razy cold, like -15 with the windchill or something like that. We rescheduled for Wednesday when the temp was a balmy 32.

Ruby wasn't the most cooperative that day. I don't think it was anything other than she had been in a very clingy mood lately and did not want to be out of my arms. She actually handled the cold quite well! She is 50% Minnesotan after all.

There were a few tricks used to get the photos:
1. Drop and Run. I'd quickly put her down in a photogenic location, run behind Katie, and wave my arms around and/or dance around like an idiot while Katie also tried to get her attention. Thankfully no one else was as dedicated as we were to get adorable photos and the park was empty.

2. Shove a snowball in it: When the snow is new to you snowballs are awesome. They made several appearances and are apparently quite tasty. No yellow snow was used in the making of these photos.

so cute I just about died

3. Begging. Eventually all of the snowballs and hopping and dropping in the world don't work. You must resort to begging. We weren't really out all that long, maybe just over 30 minutes, when Ruby decided that she was just DONE. But there was this graffiti wall I really wanted to try and get some photos in front of. So I put a snowball in her hand, dropped, and ran, and jumped, and waved, and pretended there were planes in the sky and puppies all around, and promised we were almost done.

I don't think she believed me
Really, she's two and it was cold so I was quite thrilled that Katie was able to these adorable shots. Some people might not care for the unhappy baby shots but I love them just as much as the happy ones. kids aren't happy all the time, right? Otherwise the job of a parent would be so much easier!

She is so adorable... even in the unhappy baby shots! And I love the "no yellow snow was used". Made me laugh far too loudly for 6:30 in the morning.

Btw... Downton? Totally gutted! Was sobbing on the couch, yelling at the tv. No other show makes me yell at the tv. And my Beloved was sitting there just laughing at me.

The photos are beautiful. What a treasure. I like the unhappy shots too, because they will give your child a good picture of what she was like as a child. Nobody is happy all the time...I don't think. ;)

I've so enjoyed the pictures from this day. Y'all really captured the many faces of Ruby. I applaud your efforts to do anything to get great shots! I gave up at about 2 1/2 and found we were getting much better pictures if G and I just left her alone with the photographer.
